Economic considerations do not have priority over Safety and Health protection |

Our Company makes sure to that. Thanks to the management's conviction that working safely is the only way to ensure the company's economic success, the principle that economic considerations never take precedence over safety, environmental protection and health care, has taken hold at Cyprus Cement Company.
A central point of safety management is risk assessment: Company's Health and Safety Committee is required systematically to ascertain, evaluate and minimise effects and risks to people, the environment and equipment. Guidelines and framework are established to implement the Company's policy, internal rules and applicable law, through close co-operation between the company's management, the Health and Safety Engineer and the Committee.
By implementing the resulting procedures effectively, our Company is for a number of years a Health and Safety awards winner of the Ministry of Labour competitions. The vision - the total absence of occupational accidents within the plant -remains the primary goal, still a target to be achieved. |

Health and Safety Committee
Health protection and occupational safety are fundamental responsibilities of all employees. In complying with these responsibilities, as well as following the government's legislation, a Health and Safety Committee was established since 1974. The members of the Committee are elected by departmental elections representing all the employees. The company's management also appoints specialists in various fields to support the technical know-how of the committee. The chairman of the committee is the company's Health and Safety Engineer.
The Health and Safety Committee is dedicated at developing and implementing strategies which accomplish regulatory compliance by monitoring, discussing, coordinating and reviewing all Health and Safety issues and activities taking place within the plant. The principle underlying this committee's work is "using maximum care to ensure safe operation and safety at work". Apart from introducing measures in order to prevent hazards the Committee is also studying accidents in accordance with the principle of "learning from mistakes". |

Not only every accident and incident but every near miss and disturbance is analyzed to ascertain its causes. The focus is always on the question: “How can similar incidents be avoided in the future?” |
